THE GREATS meet our New Zoom Play DEVELOPMENT Series

PRISM MEETS TIM PHILLIPS STUDIO

Oct 17 @ 7:30pm ET / 4:30pm PT

With more than 60,000 coaching sessions and 40+ years in the business, audition coach and premiere acting teacher Tim Phillips knows what works. Originally Meisner-trained, Phillips realized the need for a process that would bring the truthfulness of character and object work to the high-paced turnarounds the Film & TV industry demand, especially for auditions.

Sherlock Holmesing The Text was invented to meet that demand. Phillips raises the craft required for great auditioning to an art, and continues to teach highly committed, free, and independent artists how to be prepared, willing, and down to play - no matter what the work. Now, five years after returning to the building blocks of his training with in-person teaching, and a year and a half after online development, Tim has simplified the training he received and presents it to actors through his BUILDING THE PHYSICAL LIFE OF THE CHARACTER.

On Oct 17, we support the artists who, for the first time, take the private work of in-class training into the public arena. We are always learning, we are always growing, and Prism is especially grateful to the artists and to Mr. Phillips for the generosity of this experience.

Physical Life-Great Plays

Tim Phillips of Tim Phillips Studio has spent more than 40 years as an acting teacher and audition coach, teaching artists of all ages how to access their greatest truths through finding character. While the stage is far preferable to gain the full Physical Life experience, more can be done on-camera (even from a distance), than he originally thought possible.

The actors and the scenes presented this evening are not the full roster - working actors have to work:)

Collected Stories

BY DONALD MARGULIES

A famed short story writer takes a talented young student under her wing. The student becomes a protégé and disciple, then a colleague and friend, and finally, a threatening rival. Creative integrity meets the human cost of ambition, while making art.

Featuring Carolina Cobb as Ruth & Director Zillah Glory as Lisa.

“I suspect that the themes explored in the play are just as resonant today as they were when it was first produced over twenty years ago, arguably even more so. Cultural appropriation, intellectual property, who has the right to tell certain certain stories and who doesn’t - all of these topics may be more part of our social discourse than they were in 1996. Set in the nineties, it even contains a then-current discussion of Woody Allen’s boundary issues which are very much back in the news. But at the heart of the play is the universal relationship between a mentor and her protégée, which I think reveals as much about the parent-child dynamic as it does the teacher-student.
