Dear Playwrights

An update from Prism’s Associate Artistic Director and Dramaturg Jackob G. Hofmann

Dear Playwrights,

We received hundreds of submissions from talented/diverse playwrights and we are simply overjoyed by this great response! In the spirit of maintaining clear communication, below are some answers to some questions you may be having at this moment:

How will I know if Prism is interested in me as a playwright?

If we at Prism feel that your voice is a match for us you will be contacted directly by email. (Unfortunately due to large of amount of applicants we simply cannot reach out to everyone who is not a match.)

When will I find out if Prism would like to continue a creative conversation with me?

Great question! This may take some time as we are a small staff and have received an enormous amount of submissions. Since our aim is to do this all thoughtfully as possible, we anticipate initial reads will take us through the end of 2020 and it is our hope that by early 2021, we can then begin contacting playwrights we’d like to pursue.

What current opportunities are available to me as a playwright with Prism?

Due to COVID-19, live theatre continues to be on hold through summer 2021. With this in mind, Prism will continue online/virtual events that include: short play readings of original unproduced work, online interviews with artists over 40, and more.

Are there opportunities for full productions of my work with Prism?

Once live theatre can resume safely again, Prism plans to relaunch live events for our theatre community and will be able to offer playwrights opportunities of live staged readings of their work in front of a New York audience. These staged readings will help inform our creative staff (and board) and will also help us evaluate the work so it may be considered for a full production!

I hope this information was helpful and we thank you for your patience. Thank you again for your interest in Prism Stage Company.

Best,

Jackob G. Hofmann
